                 Our "job" is to rehome parrots or small birds needing a new home.

 A-Parrot to A-Flamingo is a non-profit organization.  Yes, we are  registered with the State of Ohio's Attorney General's Office.   A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's Charter number is available upon request.   We  are not a 501C3 at this time.   

Need to rehome a bird?   We would be happy to assist.  Birds must be turned over to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's possession before the rehoming process can begin.

WELCOME          

Thank you so much for considering adopting an older parrot.  Please read over this website to learn about A-Parrot to A-Flamingo 's adoption process.  We would like to get to know our potential Adopter's a little first.  An email Interview starts our adoption process.  You must be open to answering some  questions we have of you also.  

  WHO WE ARE                    

 A-Parrot to A-Flamingo takes the place of the Bird Placement Program.  BPP closed several years ago.  Our same rescue team has been (and is continuing to find) new homes for unwanted birds up to this time.

 OUR MISSION                    

 A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, as a non-profit organization, is dedicated to alleviating parrot neglect and suffering, offering advice to bird owners to assist them in creating a good environment for their pet bird.   A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's goal is to promote safe and humane care of companion parrots and smaller pet birds and to rehome unwanted older healthy parrots that would possibly be euthanized because of their age.                       

PARROT/BIRD SPECIES WE  WILL REHOME:               

LARGE PARROTS.   Smaller macaws, smaller cockatoos we have room for.  (Space here is limited for holding LARGE cockatoos or LARGE macaws.)  

ALL MEDIUM SIZE PARROTS  (African grays, Indian ringneck species, conures, pionus, etc.)

SMALL COMMON SPECIES  (budgies, cockatiels, canaries, lovebirds, bourkes, finches, etc.)

FLAMINGOS?   We will gladly accept  "unwanted"  pink plastic garden flamingos -- to add to the flock "decor" in our yard.                                     

WE DO NOT TAKE IN:                   

No wild or outside birds, baby birds fallen out of nests, farm birds, game birds (except for button quail possibly), swans, peacocks, toucans,  eclectus, mynahs,  lories, doves, or pigeons.  But we may be able to assist you with a referral.   

BIRD / PARROT  ADOPTION BASICS             

Tentative Adopters will be "applying" to adopt a bird.    Pls. read over this website.  We are looking for experienced parrot owners to adopt PARROTS to.   Finches, budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds may be available to most anyone.

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue does not ship birds, nor do we meet you part way for drop-off.   We do not adopt out parrots as "gifts" for adults or children.  We need to meet the actual adopter here in Brecksville before adoptions are finalized.

  ABOUT OUR ADOPTION PROCESS:                                          

(1)   A-Parrot to A-Flamingo functions as a parrot placement and parrot re-homing agency.  If you are unable to keep your small bird, or parrot, we can help.   Your bird must be signed over to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue before the rehoming process can start.  

 (2)  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue does detailed screening of qualified Adopters to be sure birds left in our care end up in the best of homes.  

 (3 A-Parrot to A-Flaming Rescue is a home-based rescue.  We are not set up like a pet shop.   We are not open for public "bird tours".   

(4)  Visiting appointments can be made AFTER an Application has been approved by our Board of Directors, usually a fast process. 

 (5)  Brecksville is the drop off and pick up location.

 (6) A-Parrot to A-Flamingo will accept most older, some handicapped birds, loudness sometimes comes with the species.   All we ask is that the bird is healthy, in perfect feather condition, is able to perch and feed itself.   Our funds are limited for vet checking sick birds coming in,

Note:  Sorry to say but A-Parrot Rescue does not receive enough donations to be able to pay for vet checking your sick, ailing, or severely feather-picked bird.  Pet ownership comes with the responsibility of paying for one's own pet's medical care too.

 (7) A-Parrot to A-Flamingo is looking for experienced parrot owners to adopt our parrots to, an adult needs to be the caretaker.  "Experienced" is defined as someone who has lived  as an adult owning a similar preferred species of parrot in the recent past.  We may require proof of your current  parrot ownership.  

(8) Process:  

A.  Email interview/chat.  We explain our adoption policies further in these emails too.    

B.  Applications can be mailed or emailed out to potential adopters after we "meet you" via email first.

  C.  Our Board of Directors needs to approve your Application in order to be cleared to adopt.   

(9) Potential Adopters must contact us via email.   We do not interview by text, in person, by Facetime, or by phone.  We reserve the right to approve or disallow an Application. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's aim is to find the best home, in our opinion, for any bird turned over to us.  We do not adopt out parrots to someone who has never owned/lived with a PARROT before.

DO YOU WANT TO ADOPT A PARROT????              

Since this is the Internet and A-Parrot to A-Flamingo does not know who is applying to adopt a parrot, we may request a proof receipt of your past or current parrot ownership.  It is wonderful if you are a multi pet owner.  However, bird care is a lot different than owning a cat or a dog.   Owning any pet will require a commitment on your part.  Parrots can live a long time.

Several types of proof receipts apply.  Inquire.

All birds are subject to prior adoption at any time.  See Petfinder.com for our most current list birds available.  The available bird list is revised as birds are ready to be adopted out.  

SOME OF OUR ADOPTION CONTRACT CONDITIONS…..             

You must be 21 years of age or older.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo does not allow breeding of any rescue bird one obtains from our agency.  We do adopt out to multi-pet, multi-parrot homes.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's rescue birds are not available to resellers planning on flipping them.  Our plan is to interview the actual new owner of each bird.

 A-Parrot to A-Flamingo has the right to retrieve any bird if our adoption contract conditions are breached.   We prefer to adopt out locally in order to possibly check on our birds at a later date.

We are searching for people who plan on keeping their parrot or small bird adopted to them thru the end of the bird's natural life.  Later, in an emergency,  if one is not able to keep the parrot  for any reason, the bird has to be returned to us.  No fees can be refunded.  Birds adopted out thru A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue are NEVER to end up on Craigslist or any other Internet selling site!   

LEG BANDS                        

 Leg bands are NOT to be removed from any bird's leg that is adopted from A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue.  That is your proof of ownership in case the bird ever gets loose for you.   A-Parrot to A-Flamingo keeps a record of the band number also.

 FREE PARROTS, CHEAP BIRDS   ?                

No.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is not a give-away site.  Any organization dealing with live animals will have daily expenses, primarily being able to feed the animals in their care.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo understands that money is tight for all of us right now  .... and this is especially true for anyone who runs an animal rescue organization.

All pet owners must be able to afford the animals in their care.  Also, a rescue organization MUST be able to afford the cost of caring for animals left in their care.  Purchasing food and possible vet care is a continual expense for all of us.

Funds coming in to us cover our buying more seed, food , pellets, office expenses, and necessary vet care for the bird you drop off, along with the care for any future birds coming in.  Adoption fees depend on the species, age, tameness or not, talking ability per individual bird.

 REFERRALS AND OUR CLIENTS                   

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is privileged to receive lots of referrals from previous clients, avian vets, other bird owners who can attest to our sincerity in finding just the right home for any bird released to our care.   Our clients have chosen and trusted A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue to rehome their birds responsibly for many years now.

 A-PARROT TO A-FLAMINGO'S  FUNDING -- NONE             

A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is not a 501C3 organization.   To explain further, A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is on a "subfixed income",  meaning we get NO subsidies or grants to run our agency.  Fees we receive cover our seed, pellets, treat expenses for parrots left in our care, and necessary vet care.   We have volunteer help only, and no one receives a salary for volunteering for A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue.  

WE ALSO NEED...

Seed and pellet donations, any brands, sealed bags or newly opened are fine.   We are always looking for stacks of plain newspaper (no magazines or ads) also!

 OUR CLIENT'S PRIVACY                        

Your privacy is important to us.  All info that we request of you stays in A-Parrot to A-Flamingo's files and is only used for placing birds in our care.  A-Parrot to A-Flamingo does not give out our bird friends' info. to any marketer, website, advertiser, company, Adopter, previous bird owner, etc.
